La forma correcta es The teacher is in the room. La preposición in se usa para ubicación mientras que into implica movimiento:

Por ese motivo, los verbos de posición siempre irán con in, pero los verbos de movimiento pueden aparecer con in o into, aunque hay un matiz de significado algo distinto:

Everyone went silent as the director walked into the room(entró).
Cuando hablamos de conceptos abstractos, solemos utilizar into si el verbo expresa movimiento o cambio, e in cuando el verbo indica la posición o el estado:
We really got into trouble for playing a practical joke on him.
They’re getting further and further into debt.
I heard you’re in trouble thanks to that silly joke.
Because we’re in debt the bank won’t lend us any more money.
