Le pouvoir curatif des images

Dans son livre Staying Well with Guided Imagery, Belleruth Naparstek, psychothérapeute et pionnier des images guidées, cite de très nombreuses recherches établissant trois principes de base sous-tendant le pouvoir curatif des images. Ceux-ci apportent une explication à l’efficacité des méditations proposées dans ce chapitre, qui font grandement appel aux images. (Soit dit en passant, les images peuvent ou non être visuelles ; si vous êtes davantage kinesthésique ou auditif, par exemple, vous pourrez entendre ou sentir ces « images » plutôt que les voir.)

  • Illustration Votre corps répond aux images sensorielles comme si elles étaient réelles. Si vous ne voyez pas très bien ce que je veux dire, rappelez-vous les sensations et les émotions que vous avez éprouvées lors de votre dernier fantasme sexuel ou en vous souvenant de vos dernières vacances. Dans une des études mentionnées dans le livre de Naparstek, il apparaissait que 84 % des personnes exposées à l’urticaire n’avaient aucune réaction lorsqu’elles imaginaient, sous hypnose, que la plante était inoffensive. En d’autres termes, leur corps croyait aux images suscitées par leur esprit et ne provoquait pas d’éruption de boutons ! Plusieurs autres études ont montré que les patients pouvaient utiliser les images positives pour augmenter considérablement le nombre de cellules du système immunitaire (par exemple, les globules blancs ou les neutrophiles) dans leur sang.
  • Illustration Dans l’état méditatif, vous pouvez guérir, changer, apprendre, et grandir plus rapidement. Naparstek parle d’état modifié pour désigner un état d’esprit calme, détendu et concentré – exactement l’état cultivé par la méditation. Ce principe s’applique également à la résolution des problèmes et à l’amélioration des performances : il est plus facile d’explorer de nouveaux comportements, d’améliorer ceux existant déjà et de faire des découvertes tactiques dans un état méditatif que dans un état d’esprit ordinaire.   • Illustration Les images procurent un sentiment de maîtrise dans les situations difficiles, réduisant par là même le stress et renforçant l’amour-propre. Lorsque vous vous battez avec un problème de santé ou une mission de travail difficile, être convaincu de n’avoir aucun contrôle sur le résultat peut entraîner un sentiment d’énervement et d’impuissance. Si vous savez au contraire que vous pouvez utiliser les images pour aider votre corps à guérir ou devenir plus performant, vous retrouvez confiance en vous et espoir en l’avenir. Un grand nombre d’études ont montré que les gens se sentaient mieux et étaient plus efficaces lorsqu’ils étaient persuadés d’avoir un certain contrôle sur leur vie.

À ces principes, Naparstek ajoute que l’émotion amplifie le pouvoir des images. Lorsque vous vous autorisez à éprouver profondément ces images en plus de les connaître totalement de tous vos sens, vous leur conférez un pouvoir de guérison et de transformation personnelle encore plus grand.
