Nommer votre expérience

IllustrationLorsque vous élargissez votre méditation à vos pensées et vos sentiments, il peut être plus facile de nommer ou noter votre expérience. Commencez par une attention consciente de votre respiration puis donnez en silence un nom à vos inspirations et expirations. Quand vous avez atteint une concentration et un calme profonds, vous pouvez y ajouter des subtilités comme « respiration longue », « respiration courte », « respiration profonde », « respiration peu profonde », etc.

 

Les noms donnés doivent rester simples et murmurés, comme une voix neutre et douce au fond de vous. Comme le dit le professeur de méditation bouddhiste Jack Kornfield dans son livre Périls et promesses de la vie spirituelle, consacrez « quatre-vingt-quinze pour cent de votre énergie à ressentir toutes vos expériences et cinq pour cent au nom murmuré en arrière-plan ».

 

Lorsque vous maîtrisez cet exercice avec votre respiration, faites la même chose avec toutes les émotions, pensées ou sentiments forts qui vous détournent de votre souffle. Donnez un nom que vous répétez doucement à l’émotion qui surgit jusqu’à ce qu’elle disparaisse : « tristesse, tristesse, tristesse » ou « colère, colère, colère », puis revenez sans heurt à votre respiration. Appliquez la même méthode aux pensées, images, états mentaux : « prévoir, prévoir », « inquiétude, inquiétude » ou « voir, voir ».

IllustrationUtilisez les mots les plus simples possibles et concentrez-vous sur une seule chose à la fois. Cette pratique vous permet d’acquérir une certaine distance et perspective par rapport à votre expérience intérieure en perpétuel changement, au lieu de vous laisser emporter par le courant.

 

En nommant des pensées et des émotions particulières, vous en reconnaissez aussi implicitement l’existence. Comme je l’ai déjà dit, nous essayons souvent de réprimer ou de renier les expériences que nous jugeons indésirables ou inacceptables telles que la colère, la peur, le jugement ou la blessure. Mais plus vous essayez de fuir votre expérience, mieux elle parvient à diriger votre comportement, comme l’a si justement fait remarquer Freud il y a plus d’un siècle.

 

Cette pratique permet à la lumière pénétrante de la conscience d’éclairer les recoins de votre cœur et de votre esprit et d’inviter vos pensées et vos sentiments à sortir de leurs cachettes pour se retrouver à la lumière du jour. Au début, il est très possible que vous n’aimiez pas ce que vous allez y voir – mais n’hésitez pas à nommer vos jugements sur vous et votre autocritique. Puis, par la suite, vous remarquerez peut-être que vous n’êtes plus surpris par ce que vous découvrez de vous – et plus vous sympathiserez avec vos apparents points faibles et fragilités, plus vous serez capable d’ouvrir aussi votre cœur aux imperfections des autres.
