The Gong Show in Patong

20 Patong (Click here) is the best and the worst that southern Thailand has to offer: sugary sand beaches and jet-ski pollution, wall-to-wall shopping and inflated prices, first-rate cabaret shows and prostitution. This is the heart of the Andaman’s action, including many dive centres, great hotel deals and this coast’s wildest nightlife. Expect busy cityscapes, tourist T-shirts that could make Hugh Hefner blush and lots of ‘Mistah want massage?’ But also don’t be surprised if, after some days on the beach and at the mall, you kind of enjoy it.
