THE CHALLENGE

Photographing fireworks poses many of the same challenges as photographing lightning. You’re shooting at night with long exposures, balancing pops of bright light against the exposure value of a darkened landscape. You’re also dealing with a brief display of light that glimmers and is gone, so it’s important to time your shots correctly to maximize the impact of the firework explosion.
