Acknowledgments
It’s fair to say that this second edition of The Fundamentals of Interior Design is even more of a team effort than the first.
Kate Duffy at Bloomsbury managed to keep the project on track, and did so by bringing Stephen Anderson on board to provide the excellent interviews and case studies. My hope when writing the first edition was that it would inspire as well as inform, and these additions add greatly to the book; they are exactly what nascent designers need to show them what is possible and what they can aim for.
Along the way, various people have provided support, sometimes practical and sometimes moral, and especially deserving of thanks are Steven Separovich, Tina Norden, and Sarah Hazell.
As any textbook is about passing knowledge on to the next generation, I would again like to dedicate my part of this book to my own “next generation”: my two boys Chad and Zach.
Simon Dodsworth
There are many people that have helped me with my contributions to this book, not least Kate Duffy and Brendan O’Connell for their support and help, as well as Simon Dodsworth for his encouragement and collaboration.
I would also like to thank all of the contributors to the case studies for their time and patience; there are too many to mention but I hope I have done their work justice.
In contributing to this book I must also acknowledge the support from my colleagues at the University of Portsmouth, especially Lynne Mesher and Rachael Brown for their help and guidance.
And finally, my contribution came at a busy time for me so I must thank my wife Lucy and children Chad and Finn for their patience and forbearance, and I dedicate this book to them.
