ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Thanks to Laura Bradford—for everything. I talk about her at the beginning of every book, and this one is no exception. In my mind, there will always be something magical about signing with her. She pulled my manuscript out of the slush pile; I didn’t come with a recommendation. I didn’t have gold stars beside my name. So what we’ve accomplished together feels miraculous. She will always be a fairy godmother in my eyes. With Killbox in particular, she provided valuable insight in resolving a plot issue, which involved a lively discussion about nanites; there is no end to her talents.

Here’s a big thank-you to Anne Sowards, who edits with a keen eye and asks questions that I don’t. For all you readers who wonder about these things—she’s the reason the answers exist. I’ve learned so much working with her, and my books are better for it. In fact, I still find it hard to believe I’m lucky enough to tap her expertise.

It’s beyond time to acknowledge the Schwagers, who copyedit the Jax books. Their positive comments mean the world to me; when people have read (and worked on) as many novels as they have, it renders approbation that much more momentous. I also appreciate their diligence in ensuring each book is as good as it can be.

I’m fortunate in that I have a cadre that offers support whenever I need an ear. So big gratitude to Bree Bridges, Lauren Dane, Donna Herren, Megan Hart, and Carrie Lofty. At one time or another, you’ve all talked me down, listened, and/or helped me brainstorm. Whenever I’m in panic mode, you ground me and make me laugh. You all rock for that; I hope I’ve been as good a friend in return.

Thanks to my family for being patient and supportive. I often spend my time in a world other than the one we live in, but they don’t seem to mind. Without such great kids and a great husband, things would be tough, and I couldn’t accomplish as much as I do.

Finally, I thank my readers for making Jax a success. Even now, I’m a little starstruck at how far she’s come. She isn’t your typical heroine, and I thank those who loved her from the beginning. Your e-mails thrill me—please keep writing. That’s ann.aguirre@gmail.com.
