rustic and refined

LIMITING THE AMOUNT OF COLOR in a design brings the focus more towards the form rather than the color. When I was in school in Vermont, I witnessed many vivid falls and winters. I was constantly blown away by how lively the landscape appeared during seasons of nearly dead foliage and a blanketed white environment.
Simplicity can be undervalued, especially in cake design. In this tablescape, the natural tones and romantic lines create a warm movement that excites the eye. The subtle colors of the surrounding props and flowers continue the theme. The cakes and other desserts are set on muted pewter stands or stacked on top of tree stumps and other rustic platters. White and rusty orange flowers complement the warm colors of the sugar feathers on the Boho Ruffles cake (right), while the muted green leaves and budding branches soften the warm colors with their cool tones.
