THE HEROIC IDEAL
In 1989, the academic journal The Lion and the Unicorn published the text of a speech by Diana Wynne Jones, “The Heroic Ideal—A Personal Odyssey.” In it, she discussed the process and decision-making behind the novel Fire and Hemlock, one of the few times she broke down her own personal creative process.
This is the first time it has appeared with the book itself.
