In the small town of Riez, near the
Valensole Plain in Provence, France, I met a nice Frenchman who was
anxious to share with me that he also owned a home in the French
Caribbean. So important was it to him that during our brief
conversation he rushed inside his small home and returned almost as
quickly, holding a framed map of the Caribbean island where his
home was located. He asked if I would take a picture of him holding
the map, and although I thought his request was a bit odd, I
obliged, initially capturing a perfectly pleasant snapshot of a guy
holding a framed map. Almost immediately after taking the shot, I
was struck with the idea of having him hold the picture frame in
front of his shorts, and sure enough, it created the illusion that
he wasn’t wearing any clothes. Because I was shooting digitally, I
was able to share the illusion with him and we both had a good
laugh.
