In truth, the Eiffel Tower is actually
quite small. In fact, it is not much bigger than a small garden
ornament that an ordinary garden vine can easily cling to. In all
seriousness, one of the great things about a wide-angle lens is
that it can contain a great deal of “stuff,” due to its wide angle
of view, plus it can focus very close. This gives us the
opportunity to merge distant subjects with extreme close-ups to
create some wonderful illusions. By walking up to the blooming vine
you see above and shooting it up close while angling the camera
upward, I created the impression that the vine is growing from the
base of a very small Eiffel Tower.
