I was thrilled to discover some
inexpensive fencing placed around the Eiffel Tower because it
collected “dewdrops” from the previous evening’s watering of the
grass. On this particular sunny autumn morning, I reached for my
Micro-Nikkor 105mm lens and got to work photographing these
miniature “fish-eye lenses.” Upon close inspection, dewdrops always
record a fish-eye image of whatever is behind them—in this case,
the Eiffel Tower. As you can see, the Eiffel Tower is there inside
the dewdrop. And even though it is centered, it works! Why? In
large part because of the strong curvilinear line, with its
soothing, calming message. It just wouldn’t work placed anywhere
else but in the middle.
