Water is a great source for mirrored
reflections, and when the wind dies down, Holland gets my vote for
offering the most mirrored reflection possibilities. It was during
a break in one of my Holland workshops, when my assistant, Jill,
and I ventured out to shoot runners in the landscape, with Jill
standing in as the runner, red sweater already in her bag.
The resulting composition is split 50/50,
but notice how the Golden Section is again alive and well in both
sections of the image. Notice, too, how the lines of trees form
converging parallels between the image’s two halves for about
two-thirds of the frame. The sense of movement, caused both by Jill
running and the converging parallels, keeps the image from being
static despite its 50/50 composition.
