No matter what type of action you’re photographing, if that action is coming directly at you, you can safely shoot at 1/250 sec. This is especially true with regard to sports. The hundred-yard dash at a track-and-field event, cars on the straightaway at a NASCAR race, the lone swimmer nearing the end of the pool, the tight end running toward the end zone, the number four greyhound crossing the finish line—these are just a few examples of the many subjects that await the use of 1/250 sec. when they are moving straight toward you.
