Small fishing ports are “gold mines,” too, and you don’t have to look far to find the most commonly found “gold” of all: rust. When I found this rusty propeller, someone had been grinding on it earlier, revealing a wonderful contrast between old and new. I set up my camera and tripod, making certain to position the camera so it was parallel to the overall composition to record the sharpest image in conjunction with my small aperture choice of f/22. When shooting “abstract” images like this, always try rotating the image on your computer later. Often, this simple rotation gives the image a whole different look and/or meaning. Although I shot this image as a horizontal, I actually prefer it as a vertical.
